When a user scans it, they hit a tracking server that logs their scan (time, location, device) and then instantly redirects them to the final destination. Because the destination is managed on a server, you can change where the QR code points at any time without reprinting the physical code. Dynamic codes usually require a paid subscription service.

1. Maintain High Contrast

Smartphone cameras rely on contrast to read the data matrix. Always use a dark foreground color (black, dark blue, deep green) against a light background color (white, pale gray). Never invert the colors (white code on a black background), as many legacy Android scanners and third-party apps cannot process inverted codes.

2. Respect the Quiet Zone

Never crowd the QR code. Ensure there is a clear margin of empty space around the entire perimeter of the code (at least 4 "modules" thick). If text or graphics intrude into this zone, the code will fail to scan.

3. Sizing for Print

The scanning distance dictates the size of the printed QR code. A good rule of thumb is a 10:1 ratio. If you expect users to scan the code from 10 inches away (e.g., a magazine), the code should be at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) square.
